Sarah was a lady of means until her parents passed away. A greedy relative goes through all the money, leaving Sarah to fend for herself on the streets of London. She learns quickly to do what she must to survive and to take care of her little charges. In a desperate attempt to survive, she has to resort to stealing. However, her attempt as a highwayman doesn’t quite go as planned and she finds herself nursing a very sexy, arrogant Lord. Now she must find a way to convince him to keep her secrets or risk losing it all — even her life.

Lord Byron Cobbett has given up on life after his beloved Clarissa’s untimely death.  He has become somewhat of a hermit and would not be leaving his country estate at all, if not for the need to clear his name with the king. On his way to London he has the misfortune of being attacked by highwaymen. Now, what is a man to do, when he finds himself wounded and being nursed by the most beautiful highway woman he has ever seen?

This is a fast-paced, fast-moving story filled with action and adventure. I thought this story really had it all, a strong heroine who fought for what she wanted and a hero that is just as strong, in a different way.   Ms. Sheffield has penned a story that will keep the reader on the edge of their seat, one to stay up late just to read another page. I loved it and loved the characters. Sarah is a definite fighter although, sometimes she doesn’t think of the consequences of her actions. Byron is just the person to try to save her from herself and possibly the hangman’s noose. I would recommend this one to everyone who loves a good historical story that is filled with hope, fear, desperation and the possibility of true love.
