Jasper Jones has known and loved Dean McQueen since they were teens. Starting out as friends, it quickly grew into something more. When it all changed for the worse, bitter feelings remain so Jasper at twenty-three still hasn’t recovered. Doing a favor for a friend he is reunited with, Dean who is now the lead singer of Black Hurricane. By the power of Dean’s obsession to reconnect with Jasper, things become complicated. He isn’t ready to forgive Dean for past mistakes and really doesn’t want anything to do with him. Too bad his heart has a mind of its own.
After reading all three books in this ongoing series, I have to say I liked Black Hurricane the best. I really liked the main characters. In essence, it’s a romantic sweet story of love lost and all it takes to to get it back. Jasper was deeply hurt so forgiveness isn’t even a blip on the radar. He’s held on to the bitterness for so long it’s become a big part of him. When he reunites with Dean, all the memories force him to deal with a situation he’s not ready for. I appreciate that forgiveness did not come quickly or easy. Dean had to fight for the relationship so there’s a bit of angst coupled with some hot loving too. The secondary characters rounded out the story nicely. It was a pleasure to see all the characters from the previous books and how life was treating them. Overall, a very engaging read I thoroughly enjoyed. It can be read as a standalone although the whole series is worth a read.
