Vampires Among Us
Erica Harper could never have guessed what her life would be like when she married. Instead of the happy marriage she envisioned she’s married to a monster, literally. He’s an alcoholic, abusive rogue vampire. She knows that she won’t survive one more of her husband’s vicious attacks, so when an opening comes she runs to the only friend she has. Kevin O’Rourke suspects Erica could be his true mate, but before he can even think about convincing her of that he needs to protect her long enough to get her away from her abusive husband. Luckily for Erica, Kevin may be one of the few people who could actually help her since not only is he a vampire too, but the leader of the Vampire Crime Task Force. With Kevin and his family helping her heal both physically and mentally, Erica learns that not all vampires are evil. But will she really be able to embrace her chance at a new life with Kevin? Or will she let fear rule her future?
This was a good book and I enjoyed meeting the characters and being introduced to a really interesting society. In fact, I know this will be an author I will be watching for future books set in this world. And eventually in the book Erica and Kevin have incredible chemistry and some hot love scenes. The big issue I had with the book is that to me the book was a bit slow and almost too long. There were times when I just wanted the story to move on, but I’m glad I stuck with it, because once it did there were some really good parts. So if you want a vampire romance with a bit of heat and a creative take then this is a book you should read.
