Life of the Party
Taking a bullet during a sting operation after the woman he loved dumped him, Doug Welland is trying to pick up the pieces of his life. However, that is hard to do when she turns up needing his help to track down a cyber-stalker set on making her life hell.
Ending their relationship was hard for Gina Bardone, but it was the right thing to do, especially when a sordid truth of hers could destroy what was between them anyway. Now though, she’s back and needing Doug’s help because she has nowhere to turn when a cyber-stalker targets her with vicious notes that threaten her life.
The plot of this book moved rather fast and I was presently surprised when I found myself at the end so soon. I enjoyed how it started with Doug placed on leave by his boss and then learning that everyone was working against him so he’d come face-to-face with his ex again in order to help her. The dialogue was well-written and I enjoyed the history these two shared and the reason they broke up, although I was a little saddened by Gina’s reasons for breaking up with Doug. What woman doesn’t want to share such a joyous occasion with the man she loves? The sex scenes were steamy, although part of them were fueled by anger on Doug’s behalf because he couldn’t just forgive and forget that they’d parted ways and he never really knew the reason why. What I liked so much about the heroine was her determination to tell Doug the real reason for why she broke things off with him. While with the hero, I liked that he could get past everything that had happened between them to find the courage to help the heroine because she was in danger.
Overall, Ms. Doyle has done a wonderful job penning this tale and I can’t wait to read what the first book in this series is all about.
