The Best Ever
This is a Series from Decadent Publishing. All the heroines (or heroes) in this series either have friends who send them to, or they hear about, Madame Evangeline’s high-end dating service 1 Night Stand. The entire series is written by different authors.
This story begins with young Jason running to his room after he returns from school. He’s crying and has ice cream, okay, a shake all over him. Sigh. You know the usual teen, high school stuff where the popular people and athletes harass the nerds and geeks. Jason is a math geek and he was hired by the parents of a popular baseball player to tutor him with math. Blake is not only a popular athlete, he’s good looking and a genuinely good guy. Jason has a total crush on him too! The two of them talk about what happened and Blake decides they should just go see a movie. I am nerd enough that I got excited they were going to see one of the Lord of the Rings movies. All I could think was, ‘Woohoo! I need to see the series again.’ Yes, I am that much of a nerd. I was also thrilled Blake wanted to go to a movie with Jason.
Fast forward seven years later and Jason is heading to a big video game convention in Vegas. Yep, large space full of lots and lots of geeks, nerds and dorks. Sigh. I would feel very comfortable there. Besides going to the event, Jason had decided he didn’t really have any luck with men and set up a date through 1Night Stand. Besides being a math geek, he’s also shy and is usually easily intimidated by large men. He gets together with a few of his online gaming buddies and decides he wants to stop at a baseball video game signing which happens to have his old friend Blake on the cover. His friends think he’s lost his mind as the whole area is full of big athletic men who were the types to bully them back in school. Blake recognizes him immediately and hugs him. Hugs him in front of everyone taking pictures and introduced Jason to some of his friends there! Nice. Blake has become a professional baseball player and he tells everyone there about how Jason helped him get there.
Eventually it’s time for Jason’s date. He’s a little nervous but so far it’s been the best day ever! It turns out his date is Blake! Holy cow! Blake is publically in the closet since athletics and openly gay do not always combine well. Jason has almost no experience and Blake would really love to have his Jason back in his life. The two of them are so cute together! The only thing I found annoying was the use of hash tags. Jason and his older sister tend to use them while text messaging each other. It was cute at first, but began #togetannoying, especially since I had to stop reading the story to figure out what the hash tag meant. I actually bought this one, rather than having it given to me to review, because I am a fan of Ms. Wadsworth as well as the 1Night Stand Series. Ms. Wadsworth showed us the effects of bullying with sensitivity and tact. I loved the relationship between Jason and Blake and think Blake is a pretty awesome guy. This is a fun story in a wonderful series. Ms. Wadsworth makes it that much better!
