Twelve years ago, Laney Calhoun left her hometown heartbroken. Now though, she’s back for Christmas and determined to avoid the man that crushed her heart. However, that seems impossible when her meddlesome mother keeps throwing the man in question in her path at every opportunity.

Kyle Nixon wants another chance with Laney after letting her go twelve years ago. If only she’d stop avoiding him and allow him to win back her trust. However, getting her to stop avoiding him is only half the trouble. The other half is that her career as a paediatric surgeon is in another state, far away from his beloved hometown.

What once was perfect had an interesting plot because the heroine was still hung up on her ex after so many years and comparing every man she was involved with in that time to him. Then there was Laney’s meddlesome mother whom was a real hoot in trying to get her daughter back together with Kyle because she believed they were meant to be together. Everyone could see that except Laney and that was due only to her own stubbornness. The dialogue was great and I enjoyed Laney’s relationship with her family. They are a very close-knit family and had become even more so after her father’s death. The sex scenes were hot and showed how much the hero and heroine still loved each other after so many years apart. What I liked so much about Laney is that once she saw Kyle again, she realised she couldn’t just keep ignoring him because it wouldn’t do her any good in the long run. While with Kyle, I liked how he pursued her because there was no way he was giving her up a second time. Since it seemed once was bad enough.

Overall, Ms. York has done a good job penning this story and I can’t wait to read more of this author’s work in the future.
