Archeologist Moira Jameson knew things weren’t exactly going normally on a dig in Sudan when they started finding small statues of figures with fangs, but she never could have imagined where this all would take her.
Turns out vampires, witches, werewolves and who-knows-what-else have been living along side us all along. But now an evil vampire named Karn is determined to reveal all vampires and parakind to humans in order to take over the world and oh yeah, he thinks she’s the key to doing it. To stop him, Moira finds herself in Broken Heart, Oklahoma where she’s been asked by the good guys to open a magical pyramid, navigate booby traps and awaken two ancients vampires. Luckily she’s not on her own to complete the tasks since werewolf Drake is determined to go with her. In fact, Drake knows that they are destined to be together. But does fate truly agree?
I am a huge fan of Ms. Bardsley’s Broken Hearts novels and this book didn’t disappoint me at all. In fact, there was something about this book that felt really fresh and different yet keeping the same feel that I enjoyed so much in the previous novels. Like always, the characters in this book are rich and oddly relatable. I may not have met a vampire or werewolf, at least not that I know of, but Moira reacts just like I imagine I would. Plus it’s always fun seeing characters from previous books. I think my favorite thing about this and all of the Broken Heart books is the humor that’s woven throughout the story. I tried to read this like someone who has not read the rest of the series and I think that you could jump in at this book and enjoy it. But I think it’s still better if you have read at least most of the previous books. I just think Ms. Bardsley is a wonderful author and that this book and this series is a must read for paranormal romance fans.
