Rachel Halloran wishes to marry one day but it seems the sheriff, whom she has feelings for, always gets cold feet when they start growing closer. Logan Tyree is wrongfully in prison. Just because he is a half-breed doesn’t mean that he should be labeled for any of the killings that they have indicted him on. When he is able to escape, he immediately gets out of there before anyone can find him missing. After he is found half-dead, very close to Rachel’s home, her father decides Rachel will take care of Logan and his wounds. Once Logan has healed, his father believes he can work as a hired gunman to help him fight his ambitious enemy. Rachel is intrigued by Logan, and slowly develops feelings for him. At first Logan doesn’t want to draw close to Rachel, after losing his beloved wife. He feels he can never love again. They both have had their own separate hurt, with scars, but as time draws them closer together, their future may not be an easy one with so many obstacles in their way.
Renegade Heart is a wonderful read. I enjoyed the characters; the pain and suffering Rachel and Logan had to endure really displayed among each of them. They each shared things in their past that was troubling. This reader could feel Logan’s pain after losing loved ones, and being treated in the fashion he had to endure. The scenery was one that could readily be visualized. Madeline Baker sketches colorful players, unique in their own special way. She chooses the right atmosphere, the equal amount of finesse, with dialogue that keeps the story flowing. This reader thoroughly found this story to be one that truly delights. There were moments that were sad, heartwarming and clung to this reader.
